About Us

University Club of Louisville History

The University Club of Louisville was established in 1991 thanks to a four million dollar donation made to the university by local philanthropist Barry Bingham, Sr. Approximately half of the money donated was placed into an endowment to help ensure the future of the club and to keep dues and fees reasonable for those who want to become a member. The University Club is one of ONLY 43 university type clubs located on campuses across the nation. We are one of just a few clubs with an endowment. The university community is fortunate to have a facility on campus dedicated to faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university to gather and socialize.

The University Club has been a significant part of the university's community engagement efforts. It aims to foster relations between the university's faculty, staff, and alumni, providing facilities and food and beverage services to its members. The club has undergone several renovations and expansions, enhancing its dining and event spaces. It is one of the few similar clubs on university campuses, not being a unit of the University of Louisville. The club's finances are not tied to the university, allowing it to operate independently.

The Club's grand reopening occurred on May 17, 2021, marking a significant milestone, with renovations to furniture, lighting, and décor. Future plans include adding more U of L artwork and enhancing the courtyard area. The Club's services include access to special member events and private event spaces for various capacities.

The University Club of Louisville continues to celebrate the university's history and provide a vibrant community space for its members.

Membership is open to all faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university. Those individuals affiliated with the university in one of these categories are always invited to join us for lunch without a membership—we encourage you to stop by and see what we are about!
